1. Arriving at Adolfo Suárez Madrid–Barajas Airport (MAD)

• Metro (Line 8 – Pink): Connects the airport with Nuevos Ministerios. Travel time to city center: 30–40 minutes. Approx. €4.50–5.00 (airport supplement included).
• Cercanías Train (from Terminal 4): Direct trains to Atocha, Chamartín, and Nuevos Ministerios. Approx. €2–3.
• Airport Express Bus (24h service): Direct to Atocha and Cibeles. Fixed price €5.
• Taxi: Flat fare to central Madrid €30. Travel time 20–30 minutes depending on traffic.

2. Public Transport Tickets

• Multi Card (Tarjeta Multi): Rechargeable card valid for metro and buses. Card cost approx. €2.50
• Single Ticket: Valid for one journey. Airport supplement applies.
• Tourist Travel Pass (Abono Turístico): Unlimited travel for 1–7 days. Zone A is usually sufficient for central Madrid.
• Tickets can be purchased at metro machines (English available). Contactless payment accepted.

• 12 metro lines, color-coded and easy to navigate.
• Trains run every 3–5 minutes.
• Operating hours: 06:00–01:30.
• Google Maps works very well for route planning.
• For Universidad Autónoma de Madrid (UAM): Line 10 (dark blue), stop Begoña, followed by a 10–12 minute walk.

5. Practical Tips

• Lunch time: 14:00–16:00. Dinner: from 21:00 onwards.
• Tap water is safe to drink and very good. 
• Most establishments accept credit cards.
• Tipping is modest (5–10% optional).
• Emergency number: 112.
• Don’t forget to bring your European Health Insurance Card (EHIC): with it, you can access necessary healthcare. This includes primary care centers and hospital emergency services.
