1. Arriving at Adolfo Suárez Madrid–Barajas Airport (MAD)
Metro (Line 8 – Pink): Connects the airport with Nuevos Ministerios. Travel time to city center: 30–40 minutes. Approx. €4.50–5.00 (airport supplement included).
Cercanías Train (from Terminal 4): Direct trains to Atocha, Chamartín, and Nuevos Ministerios. Approx. €2–3.
Airport Express Bus (24h service): Direct to Atocha and Cibeles. Fixed price €5.
Taxi: Flat fare to central Madrid €30. Travel time 20–30 minutes depending on traffic.
2. Public Transport Tickets
Multi Card (Tarjeta Multi): Rechargeable card valid for metro and buses. Card cost approx. €2.50
Single Ticket: Valid for one journey. Airport supplement applies.
Tourist Travel Pass (Abono Turístico): Unlimited travel for 1–7 days. Zone A is usually sufficient for central Madrid.
Tickets can be purchased at metro machines (English available). Contactless payment accepted.
Lunch time: 14:00–16:00. Dinner: from 21:00 onwards.
Tap water is safe to drink and very good.
Most establishments accept credit cards.
Tipping is modest (5–10% optional).
Emergency number: 112.
Don’t forget to bring your European Health Insurance Card (EHIC): with it, you can access necessary healthcare. This includes primary care centers and hospital emergency services.
